Note the 2,500-ton five-masted barkentine-rigged sailing ship Marsala in the background anchored off New London (across the river from Groton). Marsala was used as a training ship and was at New London later that year on 21 Sep 1938 when the Great New England Hurricane struck and pushed Marsala into a warehouse and caused a fire.
