XB-41 GUNSHIP: MORE IS BETTER

The need for fighter escort was important over Europe, until long-range fighters could escort the bombers to and from the target, a stop gap measure had to be found. A number of B-24s were modified into gunships armed with fourteen fifty caliber machine guns carrying 11,000 rounds of ammo.
However, like their B-17 counterpart that were also modified into gunships the XB-41s faced the same problem soon as the formation dropped their bombs, they were faster than the gunships that were escorting them the project was dropped in 1943
