The man on the far right is Chaplain John A. DeVeaux, Sr., the bishop's military escort for the bishop's world-wide goodwill tour which took place during 1943 and 1944.

The koala bear was the pet of Private First Class Sammy Hurt of the US Army 630th Ordnance Company. The other men in the photo were also men of that company.
