September 1944 the combat strength was 2,304 Panthers within the same month 692 Panthers were lost in combat. As the war progressed, due too allied bombings shortages of spare parts, fuel, new replacement Panthers and supplies compounded the problem. To keep vehicles operational many were cannibalized for parts, this alone cut down the combat strength of a Panther Battalion.

Did you know it cost the Reich about 117,000 RM for each Panther many of them were lost on the production line due to allied bombing or were lost within hours, days, weeks or months upon reaching the front.
The Panther was really over engineered mechanical breakdowns were common. However, as a peace time vehicle it would have seen a service life of over twenty (20) years one feature on the Panther was its overlapping road wheels, a design not seen on any post war tank
