An aerial photo of the Barrikady factory before its destruction is online; search under "Stalingrad Aerial Scans" and select GX1567SG-134.

The triangular block of about 13 buildings in the upper left are the Schnellhefter Block, or six-sided block. About 5 storeys high before their ruination. The cellars housed some of the remanants of the northern pocket. The collapsed steel-reinforced floor slabs proved to be very effective protection against shells and bombs.
Skulpturny Park is at left center. It is now Yuri Gagarina Park--a memorial to war dead.
Some of the buildings are still standing. Google Maps numbers them 11A, 59, 2, and 145.
Between northern Barrikady and the Volga was an isolated pocket of Soviet troops commanded by General Liudnikov. "Liudnikov's Island" is seen in the gap in the smoke.

Another apartment complex, just out of view above, is sometimes labeled "Schnellhefter Bloc."

The Barrikady armaments factory is in the right half of the photo, obscured by smoke.
