I purchased a copy of this movie only because it tells a story we all need to know about.

It does not glorify war, it shows it for what it is.

I read the director used actual experiences to put an entire movie together. This was done with Das Boot in the past.

There was proof enough for me when a young Russian Infantry man is advancing the German Fox holes. A loud bright blast is heard and seen. The Germans look out of their fox hole and in front of them is a Russian cut clean off at the waste. His legs are laying out in front of him and he screams until his blood is gone. I read this account in a book called the Siege of Stalingrad years ago. But to see it on film and know it actually took place was something I will not forget soon.

It was made by Germans and was not allowed to be released in Germany for sometime after it came out.

The badge is a silver infantry badge worth about 400 dollars.
