Ben Jones, I agree with you. But there still comes a point where it might be wiser to let the man live, like Jerry said. I can't imagine Hans Lipschis hasn't thought about his role in Auschwitz every day, and living with that is punishment enough.

Besides, isn't there statute of limitations on this?

Interesting reading this on the anniversary of the Nuremburg trial Sentencing. The post war prosecution at Nuremburg was around Crimes against Humanity as far as Auschwitz was concerned. However, the report mentions a charge of Accesory to Murder. I am not sure what they would need to prove in order to make this stick. At 93 years old it seems unlikely that this old man will serve any major time in prison and they can't hang him so any victory in the courts would be tempered.

The only wisdom here is for you younger folks to understand that this man should have been prosecuted 68 years ago. He has had his reprieve. He lived his life a free man. He was part of evil on this earth and witnessed it each and every day. Feeding the men committing it. He has never been able to erase it from his mind. He remembers. He hears the sounds of screams when he sleeps and sees the sunken faces and bony frames of the people they tortured.He cooks and eats while they starve. Please, maybe justice means nothing to you, but wisdom? Eternity of hell awaits this 93 year old. Perhaps God can forgive him but we sure dont have to.

My father fought over 3 years in Africa across Europe and freed camps. He would not have any pity on this man today. He knew he was a criminal. He knew it was terrible. Yet he was a coward.

He will die all too soon with no real suffering. They skinned people alive. Who knows maybe they even borrowed his kitchen knives. Consider the reality and magnitude of killing millions and how much effort of cruelty that really takes. He fed the men, complacent, accepted their acts.

I say starve him to death. They say its painless.

I think the point here is to drive home the idea that if this ever happens again the perpetrators will be hunted until they die. At 93 it's fairly certain that if convicted, he won't be spending much time in prison before he dies.

One of the coments hit the nail on the head.. What did they do to 93 year old men then. he knew what was going on no matter his job. l went there this year,and still find it impossible to get my head around it .Some of the killing was very slow,eg a room you could just get 14 men in it,only room to stand.they stood there with no food or water untill they died.This act is not just wiping out a race,it beggers belief.Its a crime of hate.

I have to wonder how much he can be held accountable for what happened at the camp. He was a cook. That's all I have seen being used against him. Just a guy who cooked and cleaned his kitchen. If that is all he did, I say he is not guilty of anything. What was he supposed to do? Kill himself? Stage a one man rescue of the inmates?

I'm well aware of what happened at the camps. But, this thirst for vengeance on anyone you can hang a shred of guilt on has to stop. What's next? Prosecuting the milk man? The lumberjack that cut down a tree that was used to build a fence post?

First, I understand many of the points by all. But has anyone thought that this man had no authority, he was a cook. What do you think would have happened to him if he said I am protesting the actions here and I refuse to cook anymore! The Germans were controlled by a maniac and by the time they knew what was going on it was to late. You can hunt down any and every senior officer, but a cook, it will not change anything.
