ww2dbaseZygmunt Piotr Bohusz-Szyszko was born in Chelm, Poland in 1893. He served with the Russian Army during WW1, and then joined the Polish Army after its formation, serving most of the 1930s as a regimental officer. In 1938, he was named the commanding officer of the Polish 1st Infantry Division. In 1939, he became the commanding officer of the 16th Infantry Division. After fleeing the country upon German-Soviet joint invasion, he became the commanding officer of the Polish Independent Highland Brigade based in the United Kingdom, and saw action at the Battle of Narvik in Norway. Between 1941 and 1943, he served in the Soviet Union, serving first as the head of the Polish Military Mission in Moscow, Russia than as the Chief of Staff of Polish forces on the Eastern Front. Between 1943 and 1945, he became the deputy commander of the Polish II Corps in Italy. After the war, Bohusz-Szyszko retired from army service in 1946. Between 1976 and 1980, he held the honorary position of General Inspector of the Armed Forces. He passed away in 1982 in London, England, United Kingdom.
