ww2dbaseCvetkovic was the Prime Minister of Yugoslavia between 1939 and 1941. In this role, he was relatively effective in keeping the various ethnic groups in the kingdom in line. When he signed the treaty that brought Yugoslavia into the Axis alliance on 25 Mar 1941, however, the chasm between the Serbs (who were pro-British) and the Croats (who were pro-German) widened. On 4 Sep 1944, as the Soviet troops neared, he fled to Bulgaria and later Turkey. Deemed a traitor, he spent the remainder of his life in Paris, France. On 25 Sep 2009, the regional court governing his hometown of Nis exonerated him.
