ww2dbaseCommander Yutaka Isawa was a 20-year veteran of the Japanese Navy who participated in the Philippines invasion and the Battle of Midway aboard battleship Haruna as a gunnery officer and the Solomons campaign with the 2nd Destroyer Squadron. He returned to Japan in May 1943 to study at the Imperial Navy Academy at Etajima, and completed his studies in Mar 1944. He served with the Navy Department and the 5th Air Fleet until the end of the war. After the war, he was interrogated by Commander T. H. Moorer of the United States Navy at Tokyo on 12 Oct 1945; Moorer noted that Isawa was cooperative and the information he had given was "substantially accurate".
