|3 Dec 1941Â||American submarine USS Argonaut began a "simulated war patrol" off Midway.|
|16 Aug 1942Â||American submarine USS Argonaut departed with 121 US Marines, "Carlson's Raiders", for Makin Island.|
|10 Jan 1943Â||USS Argonaut attacked a Japanese convoy of five freighters and three destroyers southeast of New Britain, en route from Lae, New Guinea to Rabaul, New Britain. She hit one destroyer with a torpedo, but the other two closed in and sank her with depth charges and gunfire. 102 were killed, which was the worst submarine loss in WW2.|
|26 Feb 1943Â||USS Argonaut was struck from the US Naval Vessel Register.|
