16 Dec 1941 | US submarine Swordfish was credited with the first confirmed sinking of a Japanese ship in the Pacific War. |
24 Jan 1942 | USS Swordfish sank Japanese gunboat Myoken Maru off Kendari, Celebes, Dutch East Indies. |
14 Feb 1942 | USS Swordfish sank Japanese transport Amagisan Maru 91 miles east of Davao, Mindanao, Philippine Islands. |
29 May 1942 | USS Swordfish sank Japanese transport Tatsufuku Maru, already damaged by USS Seal on the previous day, between Dutch Borneo and the Philippine Islands. |
12 Jun 1942 | USS Swordfish sank Japanese transport Burma Maru in the Gulf of Thailand. |
9 Jun 1944 | The American submarine USS Swordfish (SS-193) fired four torpedoes at a Japanese convoy 55 miles east of Chichi Jima, Bonin Islands (Ogasawara Islands), Japan. Two torpedoes struck and sank the Kamikaze-class destroyer Matsukaze, 55 miles east of Chichi Jima. |
12 Jan 1945 | The US submarine Swordfish became missing, presumably sunk by either Japanese depth charges or in a minefield, off Okinawa, Japan. |

My great grandfather served on the swordfish the mission before it went missing. I’d like to see if I can find his name on a list or something.
