ww2dbaseIn Jun 1940, the United States Army began developing a heavy artillery gun capable of firing at the range of 33,500 yards (30,600 meters). It was not until 1944 when the 8 inch Gun M1 design entered production, though only in small numbers due to continued troubles with bore wear and poor accuracy. The issues were not resolved before the end of the war, thus only a few these 8 inch Gun M1 weapons saw combat during WW2.Source: Wikipedia ww2dbase
