ww2dbaseThe 152 mm Gun M1935 (Br-2) heavy field guns were designed and produced by the Barrikady Plant in Stalingrad, Russia in the late 1930s in very limited numbers; only 37 or 38 were built between 1936 and 1940. Right from the start, they had many problems that were deep rooted in poor design. Their barrels suffered from short service lives; muzzle velocity decreased 4% only after 100 shots. The tracked carriage, theoretically provided greater mobility in Russia where road networks were less than ideal, backfired as they were could not carry entire guns, and the resulting situation of having to remove the barrels for separate transportation meant that at least 45 minutes were needed to set up the weapon for combat. Finally, to remedy the short barrel life issue, a new barrel design with deeper rifling was produced; which this marginally improved the barrel life, they required different ammunition, thus complicating the logistic situation. Those that survived the war remained in service through the 1950s despite the drawbacks; a few of them then received new wheeled carriages, were re-designated Br-2M, and served until the 1970s.Source: Wikipedia. ww2dbase
