ww2dbaseThe Russian RG-14 time-delayed stick concussion grenade was designed by Vladimir Rdultovsky. They each had a cylinder housing for the explosive picric acid, with a welded sheet metal handle. The weapon was armed with the removal of its safety pin, which started a 4- to 5-second time clock before the explosive was detonated. Used extensively in WW1, they remained in use by the Soviet military through the interwar period. A number of them were produced with 500 grams of chemical irritant chloropicrin in 1917, but this RG-17 variant was discontinued after WW1. In 1930, the variant RG-14/30 superseded the original design; the new variant replaced picric acid with TNT. Some of them were issued with a 190-gram fragmentation sleeve that turned these concussion grenades into fragmentation grenades. RG-14 grenades saw service during WW2. They were officially retired from front line service after WW2, though RG-14 grenades without explosives continued to be used for training purposes until the 1980s.Captured RG-14 grenades in German inventory were designated HG 336(r). There were reports of Axis forces using these captured weapons on the Eastern Front.
