ww2dbaseThe Type 97 20-mm automatic anti-tank rifles were fairly accurate and effective, though the heavy recoil made the weapon inaccurate for soldiers not used to it. Normally used in semi-automatic mode, these weapons could be switched to fire in full automatic mode, reaching a very high rate of fire for weapons of this type. Type 97 anti-tank rifles were versatile enough to be carried by a team of two men to fight in any terrain. They typically fired armor piercing rounds that could breach 20 millimeters of armor at the distance of 700 meter, or deeper, 30 millimeters, at the distance of 350 meters.Between 1937 and 1945, 400 Type 97 anti-tank rifles were built.
