ww2dbaseThe Type 94 semi-automatic handguns were designed for mass production. They were accepted for military service in 1934 (year 2594 in the Japanese calendar). They generally received poor reviews for having poor stopping power (only 180 foot-pounds of force at the muzzle), the likeliness of mis-firing, and the exposed recoil spring which made it easy to collect dirt. Between 1934 and 1945, about 72,000 were produced by the Nambu Rifle Manufacturing Company and by various state arsenals; those manufactured during war time were said to be of even lower quality than the pre-war examples.
