ww2dbase82-BM-37 mortars were developed by B. I. Szayrin based on the French Brandt mle 27/31 mortar design. Production began in 1937, and due to the demands of war and firing instability problems of the 82-PM-41 successor, the production of 82-PM-37 continued alongside of 82-PM-41 until 1943. A large number of them were lost during the initial phases of the Russo-German War that began in 1941. After the war, weapons of this design saw foreign service with forces of Communist China (as Type 53 82mm mortar), Egypt (as Helwan M-69 82mm mortar), and Syria (as PM-37), either through surplus sales or local licensed manufacture.Source: Wikipedia ww2dbase
