ww2dbaseGiran Airfield was located in Giran (now Yilan), Taihoku Prefecture, Taiwan. It was built by the Japanese Army and generally hosted fighters. Several special attack squadrons were based at this airfield at the end of the war. After the war, the airfield was dismantled; the site now served largely as farmland, although one of the small flak towers can still be seen at the time of this writing.

1 Apr 1945Â | B-24 bombers of 43rd Bomb Group (H) of US 5th Army Air Force attacked Giran Airfield in northern Taiwan. |
13 Apr 1945Â | Avenger aircraft from HMS Victorious, en route back to the carrier after attacking Matsuyama Airfield in Taihoku (now Taipei), strafed 12 aircraft on the ground at Giran Airfield in northeastern Taiwan; actual damage caused by the strafing was unknown. |
16 Apr 1945Â | B-24 bombers of US 380th Bombardment Group, escorted by P-51 fighters, attacked Giran Airfield in northern Taiwan. |
18 Apr 1945Â | B-25 bombers attacked Giran Airfield in northern Taiwan. |
