This photo was taken shortly after Sgt Jones was knocked out of the tail gunner’s position without a parachute and survived with only minor injuries. On returning from Bordeaux, France on 16-Sep-1943, the Group found England covered by bad weather. Searching for an airfield the plane scrapped a hill, the tail gunner's escape hatch popped open, & Sgt Jones fell out of the aircraft. He rolled to a stop with only minor injuries. The plane then crashed into another hill, killing 1 and injuring several others.
