The officer on the right is Col Bernstein, deputy chief of the Financial Branch at SHAEF (G-5). G-5 handled the recovery of the gold and currency found at Merkers while the Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives unit (the Monuments Men) handled the recovery of the art. The man leaning in on the left is a civilian war correspondent. Just beyond the war correspondent with the fur collar on his jacket is Gen Patton. Barely visible behind Gen Patton is Gen Manton Eddy.
