My great Uncle flew this plane on one of his sorties. June 4, 1944. The plane has two names, Patches II and Spotted Cow.

What's this, a new type of camouflage? the
answer is,its what's called an assembly ship
high time, and war-weary B-17's were painted
in bright colors so the other B-17's crews could form up in formations.
Once the Groups were airborne, and in their
Group formations, the assembly ship would return to base.
