Nose art was a common feature on American bombers throughout the war and the huge B-29 provided the biggest canvas for cartoon characters, pin ups and sweethearts close to the hearts of men far from home. In March 1945, an order came down to remove the paintings, whether suggestive or not, although examples were still to be found displayed through to the war's end.
