This photo was taken from the Ford Island water tower which was removed later in 1942.

The two-engine transport in the lower left is a Douglas R3D, the Navy version of the DC-5 & the USAAF C-110. This is a very rare bird. Only 12 were built and only 7 were operated by the Navy. This aircraft came to Hawaii for use by US Marine paratroopers but it was procured by "Commander, Air, Battle Force, US Fleet" and based at Ford Island.

There is also a Grumman JRF Goose to the right of the R3D.
