Note SSgt Jessup’s insulated flight suit with insulated boots. “Unbearable II” was a B-17F with serial number 42-29900 that was lost on 26 Jul 1943 on a raid to Hanover, Germany. All ten aircrewmen were taken prisoner but one died later of his wounds while a prisoner. The other nine survived the war and were returned to the United States.
Some sources identify TSgt Myllykoski in this photo as the ball turret gunner but he is listed as the crew’s radio operator on the Missing Air Crew Report from the Hanover raid. SSgt Jessup is not listed as part of the crew on the report.
