The Red Army troop on the left isn't firing an M-1891, that is an M-44 Mosin Nagant Carbine, the M-1891 is almost 4 inches longer, and has no 'Pig Sticker' bayonet mount affixed to the right side of the weapon's barrel.
I know, I own one made at the Tulia Arsenal stamped 1945.
