Auschwitz Facebook Page

14 Oct 2009

After the launch of a YouTube channel, the Polish authorities in charge of Auschwitz had launched an official Facebook page. The administration of the former Nazi concentration camp aimed to educate a younger and more web-savvy audience about the Holocaust. "We're always trying for new ways of reaching people, and in today's world one of the most popular tools is the internet, and on the internet millions of people use Facebook," said Pawel Sawicki on behalf of the Auschwitz Museum, who also noted that one of the capabilities of a Facebook page that the official Auschwitz site lacked was a place for visitors to discussion various topics. "So far, it's just an experiment. We'll see how people react," he said.

Over a million people were killed at Auschwitz during the European War.
