'Arbeit macht frei' Sign Stolen from Auschwitz
Polish police were informed that the "Arbeit macht frei" ("work makes one free") sign at the entrance of the Auschwitz Memorial Museum had been stolen. The museum remains open, and a reproduction of the sign had been erected in the place of the original.

UPDATE 20 Dec 2009: Auschwitz Memorial Museum reported that police had found the stolen gate and arrested 5 men. The gate was reportedly found in 3 separate pieces.
