WW2DB's Sixth Anniversary
Can you believe it has been six full years since I had officially unveiled my random collection of WW2 essays, photos, and other such items as the WW2DB website? Since then, the site had grown quite a bit, both in terms of content as well as readership. As usual, I will provide some statistics representing what you can find on the website after these six productive years; the numbers in parenthesis show the growth since one year ago on 29 Dec 2009.
- 599 biographies (+59)
- 250 events (+30)
- 560 ships (+37)
- 227 aircraft models (+19)
- 123 vehicle models (+22)
- 216 weapon models (+11)
- 42 historical documents (+9)
- 190 books reviewed (+54)
- 10,205 photos (+2,367), 1,073 in color (+207)
- 5,731 visitor comments (+2,360)
During 2010, aside from attaining these quantitative achievements, which includes reaching the 10,000th photograph milestone, the WW2DB team has also been busy working on a brand new section. In fact, this section had been under construction for more than a year now. As the first phase of this project is nearing completion, I am proud to unveil to you WW2DB's very own WW2 Timeline. WW2DB's Tom Houlihan is the visionary behind this project, but since, a number of other WW2DB contributors had jumped on board, and this timeline really had grown into one of the more comprehensive timelines on the web. As we aim to complete the first phase of this project by the end of Jan 2011, we already have plans set forth for second phase enhancements, which are scheduled to be done in mid-2011. We hope you will find this new section useful. As always, please do share any comments and suggestions, and we will always try our best to address them.
Thank you all, WW2DB team members and visitors alike, for allowing me to share in your hobby of WW2 history. I hope that one year from now, I will have the opportunity to once again report great growth to you!
