USS Rasher Operational Timeline

24 Feb 1944 American submarine Rasher sank Japanese transports Tango Maru and Ryusei Maru in the Java Sea, not knowing that the former was carrying Allied prisoners of war and laborers. 3,000 POWs and laborers were killed aboard Tango Maru and nearly 5,000 soldiers were killed aboard Ryusei Maru.
