ww2dbaseThe two 28 cm schwere Bruno Kanone (E) railway guns of the German Army were built by the weapons manufacturer Krupp between 1937 and 1938. They were also known by the shortened version of their designation, 28 cm sBr K (E). They were actually large caliber coastal defense guns built by Belgium that dated back to the WW1 era, chosen to be converted into railway guns as this effort would be much faster than developing new weapons from scratch. The two guns were installed onto newly designed mountings that rotated on circular railway tracks for 360° traverse. They had to be loaded at 0°, thus the crew had to re-aim prior to each shot. They were used during the invasion of France; they fired upon targets in the southern Alsace region between 14 and 17 Jun 1940. After the conquest of France, they were transferred to Nærbø, Norway where they returned to their prior role as coastal defense guns. Later in the war they were transferred to Fredrikstad, Norway.Source: Wikipedia ww2dbase
