- Submarine USS Thresher made a submerged patrol of the approaches to the Ambon Bay in the Maluku Islands, Dutch East Indies. She fired two torpedoes at an unescorted merchant ship leaving the bay that passed underneath the target without exploding. Upon later reflection, the Thresher's commanding officer came to believe this had been a "Q-ship" (warship disguised as a merchantman). ww2dbase [Thresher | Ambon, Maluku Islands | DS]
