- Submarine USS Narwhal surfaced in Siari Bay, Mindanao, Philippines and took aboard one doctor and 81 survivors who had been POWs aboard the Shinyo Maru when that ship was torpedoed and sunk by the submarine USS Paddle on 7 Sep 1944.
