- In a four-hour meeting German Chancellor Adolf Hitler instructed SA leader Ernsrt Röhm to send the 4,500,000 men of the SA on leave for the month of Jul 1934 and Röhm himself to take sick leave for a few weeks. ww2dbase [Adolf Hitler | AC]
- America's fourth aircraft carrier, USS Ranger, was commissioned at Norfolk, Virginia, United States under the command of Captain Arthur L. Bristol. Although smaller than the USS Lexington and USS Saratoga, Ranger was the first US carrier to be designed and built as such from the keel up.
