- The Japanese merchant cargo ship Manei Maru No. 3 was sunk by a naval mine deployed by a B-29 aircraft of US 20th Air Force ten kilometers west of Funagawa, Akita Prefecture, Japan. ww2dbase [Funagawa, Akita | HM]

- The 2,218-ton Japanese merchant cargo ship Katori Maru was sunk by a mine in the Sea of Japan off Niigata, Japan. ww2dbase [Sea of Japan | HM]
- The 996-ton Japanese merchant ship Hokko Go was sunk by US aircraft in the Korea Strait. ww2dbase [Korea Strait | HM]
- P-51 Mustangs flying from Iwo Jima made a fighter sweep of southern Japan. One fighter was badly damaged and the pilot had to bail out 15 miles off the Japanese coast.
