- Du Yuming received orders to travel to Chongqing, China to meet with Chiang Kaishek. ww2dbase [Du Yuming | CPC]
- The Indonesian People's Army, the military arm of the newly founded Republic of Indonesia, declared war on the Netherlands. ww2dbase [CPC]
- Angered by Japanese troops' refusal to surrender their weapons to the local Indonesian nationalist youth organization, Indonesians massacred several hundred Japanese civilians in Semarang, Java, Indonesia. Japanese troops soon began to retaliate against Indonesian fighters. ww2dbase [Semarang, Java | CPC]
- During an independence celebration in Pyongyang, Korea, Soviet leaders introduced Kim Il-sung, Cho Mansik, and others to a cheering crowd estimated at 100,000 people. This was considered the start of Kim Il-sung's political career. ww2dbase [Pyongyang, Pyongannamdo | CPC]
