  • The Indonesian People's Army, the military arm of the newly founded Republic of Indonesia, declared war on the Netherlands. ww2dbase [CPC]
  • Angered by Japanese troops' refusal to surrender their weapons to the local Indonesian nationalist youth organization, Indonesians massacred several hundred Japanese civilians in Semarang, Java, Indonesia.
