- USS Rock fired nine torpedoes to scuttle the damaged submarine USS Darter on Bombay Shoal in the Spratly Islands; three hits were recorded. ww2dbase [Rock | CPC]
- Louis Mountbatten's Chief of Staff, Major General Albert Wedemeyer, was ordered by General George Marshall to proceed to China to take over command of US forces in China and to replace Joseph Stilwell as Chiang Kai-Shek's Chief of Staff.
