GERMAN SOLDIER:
During World War I, Adolf Hitler was awarded
the Iron Cross 2nd Class in 1914, the Iron Cross 1st Class in 1918, Military Service Medal. Did you know that Hitler was one of the few enlisted men
awarded the Iron Cross 1st Class.
This award was usually given to officers, but was not uncommon to be awarded to enlisted. Of the 11,000,000 men mobilized during WWI, 163,000
enlisted were awarded the Iron Cross 1st Class.
UNIFORM OF THE DAY:
File photo, Adolf Hitler has been issued the M-1910 field gray uniform, with M-1908 visor cap. Both field cap and visor cap carried two cockades the top was in the colors of Germany Black, White and Red, the bottom cockade was the colors of Bavaria Blue and White. Each German State had its own colors, and was worn of the service caps, the men came from...
