Famous WW2 Quote
"You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word. It is victory. Victory at all costs. Victory in spite of all terrors. Victory, however long and hard the road may be, for without victory there is no survival."Winston Churchill

San Jacinto (CVL-30) was the last of the 9 light carriers of the Independence class. Commissioned December 15 1943 at Philadelphia, then a month fitting out there. She did some minor workups in Delaware Bay and then departed January 23 1944 (when this picture was taken) for Chesapeake Bay to meet her Air Group and start working flight operations. She would run her first true flight operation on January 24 in Chesapeake Bay. The SNJ was not a part of the ship's Air Group, rather on board here to give the deck crews something to start working with, and was flown off on the 24th.
