  • The USAAF 306th Bomb Group flying from RAF Thurleigh launched a bombing raid against Hanover, Germany. On their return to Thurleigh, fog over England resulted in the 306th arriving over the airfield at the same time as the unseen B-17s of the 305th Bomb Group. As the planes made evasive maneuvers, two bombers from the 305th collided and exploded. All 19 aboard both planes were killed. ww2dbase [Bombing of Hamburg, Dresden, and Other Cities | RAF Thurleigh | Hanover | DS]
