  • United States submarines operating off Kyushu received orders to form a wolfpack consisting of USS Silversides, USS Threadfin, and USS Hackleback. Unit commander would be the commanding officer of USS Silversides, Cdr J.C.   • USS Hackleback and USS Threadfin made radar contact with the Japanese force centered around battleship Yamato. Hackleback attempted to close on the force but was driven away by escorting destroyers.   • USS Silversides experienced radar and radio problems just as submarines USS Hackleback and USS Threadfin started issuing reports of a Japanese task force making a sortie down the Bungo Channel from the Inland Sea.
