Note that this aircraft is marked as the “Barbara III,” the third Avenger of Lt(jg) George H.W. Bush, future President of the United States. The drawing also contains a few minor errors. The wingtip running light is incorrectly identified as a landing light, which is different. The torpedo is correctly identified at the Mark XIII but the drawing uses incorrect proportions for the Mark XIII (should be shorter). The position identified as the bombardier’s seat was more correctly used by the radioman. Cross-trained bombardiers and radio operators, along with Norden bombsights, were part of the initial concept for the Avenger, but neither lasted very long and both would have disappeared well before “Barbara III” was flown by Lt(jg) Bush.
