As the crew chief, MSgt Gregory was part of the ground crew and the one who most closely “owned” the airplane, even more so than the flight crew. He was the one who petitioned the King to name the bomber in honor of the King’s daughter, Princess Elizabeth of York, and it was the King who suggested the name ‘Rose of York’.
