ww2dbaseIn 1942, leadership of the United States Army in Australia requested the local industries to provide light armored vehicles for patrolling and defending US Army interests in Australia. As a result, Ford Australia produced about 40 armored cars designated Scout Car S1 (American). Based on the Ford CMP F15 chassis, they were lightly armored, equipped two machine guns per vehicle, and armored sides and open tops. Most were built as rear-wheel drive vehicles; a single exception was built as a four-by-four vehicle. They remained in Australia for defense duties and did not see any combat.
