In checking with the Battle Ship USS North Carolina's web page. It appears that the date of the photo is incorrect. https://battleshipnc.catalogaccess.com/photos/4247 If you read the photo's description, there are two accounts for the photo. The first one appears to be incorrect as to connecting the photo to the torpedo attack. Four sailors were buried at the Army Cemetery on the Island of Tongatabu on 20 Sept 1942, not at sea. The fifth sailor was washed away at sea and MIA. The second account states that the burial at sea was for Seaman Millard Rae Nieman who died of Sepicemia on 15 Feb 1944.

In checking your sources and North Carolina’s war diaries and muster rolls, I think your assessment is correct. Further, the date of the torpedo attack was 15 Sep 1942 not the 6th (not that this matters for this image). The captioning has been corrected to reflect these discoveries and thank you for bringing them up.
