To facilitate Church Services for the troops in the field, a number of mobile motor churches were provided by Public subscription. The first of these to arrive in France held a service at Montgomery’s headquarters on 28 Aug 1944. US General Dwight Eisenhower also attended these services.
What looks like a mitre on the vicar’s head is really the crest of St. George painted on the side of the van.
