  • East of the Azores, two pilots flying from escort carrier USS Bogue observed German submarine U-238 on the surface and attacked. Australian New Guinea

  • In the early morning, a US Navy PBY aircraft sank Japanese passenger ship Himalaya Maru 10 miles south of New Hanover Island in the Bismarck Islands. Many of the 2,400 passengers were killed, while the rest were rescued by other ships in the convoy. ww2dbase [New Hanover, New Ireland | CPC]
