- The Allies launched a new offensive toward Marsa Brega and El Agheila in Libya. ww2dbase [Second Battle of El Alamein | CPC]
- The Cockleshell Heroes Raid: Ten British Commandos in five two-man canoes were launched from a submarine to attack enemy shipping in the port of Bordeaux, France. Three canoes were lost but two paddle 70 miles up-river to plant limpet mines on ships in the harbour. Six vessels were disabled. Two Commandos were drowned en route, six were captured and executed and two made it back to England, United Kingdom. ww2dbase [AC]

- Japanese hospital ship Hikawa Maru departed Truk, Caroline Islands. ww2dbase [Hikawa Maru | Truk | CPC]
- German Type IXC U-Boat U-505 arrived at Lorient, France from her fourth patrol with the distinction of being the “most heavily damaged U-boat to successfully return to port.”. ww2dbase [U-505 | Loirent, Bretagne | DS]
- Tatsuta Maru was re-requisitioned by the Japanese Navy and was attached to the Yokosuka Naval District, Japan. ww2dbase [Tatsuta Maru | Yokosuka, Kanagawa | CPC]
- Light carrier Ryuho departed Yokosuka, Japan for Truk, Caroline Islands, escorted by destroyer Tokitsukaze. She had on board 20 light bombers and their pilots. ww2dbase [Ryuho | Yokosuka, Kanagawa | CPC]
