The Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church still stands in Berlin today, as a memorial. My trip to Berlin was in April 1967 at that time, you could not walk up to the Berlin Wall, you had to see it from a safe distance the Berlin Police were always on guard, and across the the strip of no mans land, the vopos or East German Border Guards watches and filmed any person or persons of interests,the three of us dressed in trench coats, dark glasses and gloves, I guess we could be taken for CIA-Spooks! not to mention the Lt. Col. who waited for us. I'm sure the East Germans wanted to know "Who were those guys".
Part of a Cold War Mystery. Took a tour of East Berlin had to stay on the bus at all times before we passed allied check point the Military Police made sure we had all our papers, had to travel in uniform, orders were in English, Russian, German and French when we crossed into East Berlin the Vopos looked at each passangers papers or passports slowly, thats German efficiency for you it took longer to look at all the papers, then it did for the tour! but ask me if it felt good to get back to West Berlin it sure did. When I was in Berlin the West Berliners, would buy the beer. They were thankful for the Allied forces in Berlin.
