- USS Nicholas delivered two Australian cruisers to Kossol Roads, Palau and departed immediately for Leyte Gulf, Philippines. ww2dbase [Nicholas | DS]
- The Infantry Landing Ship Empire Javelin was torpedoed and sunk by the German Submarine U-772 in the English Channel. Among the passengers were 208 officers and 624 enlisted men of the main body of the newly raised US 15th Army.
